Anti-Racism & Cultural Advocacy Committee
In 2020 - 2021 the members of the Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Committee (MARC) engaged in the reflective process of revising its mission statement, goals and objectives, and Terms of Reference. This review led to the re-evaluation of the Committee’s name to better capture the Committee’s guiding principles and advocacy concerns: anti-racism, religious acceptance, cultural diversity and inclusion, equity, social justice, and human rights. After much deliberation and consultation, we confirmed the Committee’s new name. We are now the Anti-Racism and Cultural Advocacy Committee (ARCA).
The Anti-Racism & Cultural Advocacy Committee (ARCA) emphasizes anti-oppressive social work practice against any form of discrimination
based on race, culture, ethnicity and/or religion.
The functions of ARCA are:
a) to raise critical awareness by engaging social workers, through dialogue
and workshops, on issues related to racism, cultural and religious diversity,
human rights;
b) to promote the delivery of services appropriate to a multiracial,
multi ethnocultural and religiously diverse society.
The Committee develops and recommends positions for action to the BCASW on issues specific to racism, cultural and religious diversity, and human rights. If you are interested in participating in ARCA, please contact BCASW for information about Committee meetings.
