The Canadian Association of Social Workers

CASW is a Federation comprised of provincial/territorial partner organizations, with a national office in Ottawa. BCASW is a proud partner in the national association. Your membership with BCASW provides input into a voice for social work at the national level as well as eligibility for all benefits offered by CASW.

As a BCASW member you will automatically receive CASW Mailings such as Press Releases, the Reporter (CASW's Monthly Newsletter), and other communications. You can sign up for CASW's Media Monitoring Service. Practice resources include a reconciliation hub.  You have access to continuing education opportunities both live and recorded, BMS Group Liability Insurance, Affinity Programs, and online members only content such as the Social Work Reference Center.

If you'd like to set up an account with CASW to access members only content, sign up here. Please ensure that you sign up for your CASW account with the same email used for membership with BCASW so that CASW can verify your membership. This verification process can take a few business days.

Although the official Code of Ethics for social workers in British Columbia is the BCASW/BCCSW Code of Ethics, the Code of Ethics developed by the CASW is a valuable resource.  It is newly revised as of 2024, using a lens of truth and reconciliation. The CASW Code of Ethics identifies seven core social work values and the principles which underline those values. The identified core values are:

Respecting the Dignity and Worth of All People
Promoting Social Justice
Pursuing Truth and Reconciliation
Valuing Human Relationships
Preserving Integrity in Professional Practice
Maintaining Privacy and Confidentiality
Providing Competent Professional Services

Each value is accompanied by Guiding Principles, Context for Practice statements, and Guidelines.
