BC Social Workers Speak Out Against Residential School Denialism

The British Columbia Association of Social Workers (BCASW) has spoken out against residential school denialism and efforts to restrict Indigenous land acknowledgements in British Columbia. In its October 28, 2025 statement, the association opposed legislation introduced by MLA Dallas Brodie that sought to prohibit land acknowledgements by employees of publicly funded institutions. BCASW emphasizes the importance of recognizing Canada's history of colonization, supporting Indigenous communities, and advancing reconciliation. The association also calls for continued public education about residential schools, support for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, and collective efforts to challenge denialism.
