Canadian Association of Social Workers

BCASW participation in the national federation and the CASW benefits available to BCASW members.

The Canadian Association of Social Workers

CASW is a federation comprised of provincial and territorial partner organizations, with a national office in Ottawa. BCASW is a proud partner in the national association. Membership with BCASW provides input into a voice for social work at the national level and eligibility for benefits offered by CASW.

As a BCASW member, you automatically receive CASW mailings such as press releases, Reporter, and other communications. Members can sign up for CASW’s Media Monitoring Service. Practice resources include a reconciliation hub, continuing education opportunities, BMS Group liability insurance, affinity programs, and members-only content such as the Social Work Reference Center.

If you set up a CASW account to access members-only content, use the same email used for BCASW membership so CASW can verify your membership. Verification may take a few business days.

Although the official Code of Ethics for social workers in British Columbia is the BCASW/BCCSW Code of Ethics, the CASW Code of Ethics is a valuable national resource. The 2024 CASW Code uses a lens of truth and reconciliation and identifies seven core social work values:

  • Respecting the dignity and worth of all people
  • Promoting social justice
  • Pursuing truth and reconciliation
  • Valuing human relationships
  • Preserving integrity in professional practice
  • Maintaining privacy and confidentiality
  • Providing competent professional services
