Biography
Beginning counselling is an intimidating process and I congratulate you for making it this far! It is an impressive accomplishment to take action with your mental health and you should be proud of yourself.

Counselling offers a space for growth, stabilization, recovery, healing, and connection. I believe that much of human suffering is the result of disconnection and loneliness. As humans, we require connection. When we do not have this or we fear our connection is under threat, we respond. In counselling, we can explore this response to better understand our patterns and why we often find ourselves stuck, isolated, and distraught.

While we all have the tools to maintain, improve, and stabilize our mental health, I believe that the best results can be achieved collaboratively; I can provide a supportive, non-judgemental space to help you access these tools. By following a combination of evidence-based practice and semi-structured talk therapy, I look to use a model that meets you where your needs are. If you require directive care, I will provide that. If a more loosely formed treatment plan is required, I will gladly support you. I maintain a client-centered approach that recognizes the complicated systems life presents. I believe we are all constantly shaping and being shaped by our environments and it is important to recognize the influence of these systems on us.

I bring into counselling valuable experience working with diverse populations through community development in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, a mental health and substance use team in the Fraser Valley, and providing therapy to First Nations adults and youth groups in Ontario. I also have extensive work experience in the great outdoors, but my time with the Canadian Coast Guard most informs my understanding of the effects that traumatic exposure can have on an individual. This background has left me with a robust understanding of independence in the natural world and the healing powers nature can offer.

My formal training is in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy.

If anything about my profile communicates to you that I would be a good fit then please feel free to reach out!
