DESCRIPTION
Helping professionals are highly skilled at navigating services, yet lasting change often depends on what exists beyond them. This session explores how practitioners can strengthen natural supports, build community connections, and shift from a service-centred approach to one that creates sustainable networks around children, adults and families.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Apply systems thinking to better understand the ecological, social and organisational factors influencing outcomes for children, young people and families.
- Critically reflect on current practice to identify opportunities to strengthen natural supports, community connections and protective factors alongside formal service provision.
- Recognise barriers that contribute to fragmented service delivery and explore practical strategies to improve collaboration across disciplines, agencies and communities.
- Develop practical approaches to supporting transitions by strengthening relationships and community networks that remain after professional involvement has ended.
- Integrate ethical and strengths-based decision-making into practice by balancing professional intervention with empowerment, participation and sustainable community support.
PRESENTER
Annaruth believe some of the most important work Social Workers do happens outside the therapy room and beyond the services we provide.
Drawing on more than two decades working across statutory, health and community settings in both the UK and Canada, she has supported children, young people, adults and families navigating complex systems and major life transitions. These experiences have shaped her passion for reflective practice, systems thinking and collaborative approaches that strengthen natural supports and improve sustainable outcomes. Her presentations combine practical experience, critical reflection and discussion that encourages professionals to think beyond organisational boundaries.
